What Dental Assistants Do

The responsibilities of a dental assistant can vary depending on the state and the type of office you work in, and may include tasks like: 

  • Preparing patients and work areas for treatments and procedures and ensuring patients are comfortable 
  • Keeping records of dental treatments and scheduling appointments 
  • Assisting with billing and payment 
  • Sterilizing dental instruments and handing them to dentists during procedures 
  • Taking, exposing, and processing dental impressions and X-rays

Summit’s Dental Assisting program is designed to teach students the essentials and core skills they’ll be using in the real world. You’ll not only learn direct patient care duties, but also dental radiology and safety, infection control, orthodontic and endodontic treatments, and more. 

And because we believe students learn better in the right environment, the program features small classes and hands-on training from instructors with real-world experience. All taking place in a facility with free tutoring, flexible schedules and a Career Services Department ready to set you up to succeed!

Externships

You will be placed in a real-world professional setting to gain the knowledge and skills you need to be successful. 

Externship placement services: 
We work to establish externship sites that will help you apply your program’s core curriculum. 

Externship supervision: 
We will oversee your externship placement and partner with you on your journey to training completion.
