Our Electronic Health Record/Coding program will introduce you to a concept defined as systematic collection of electronic health information about individual patients or populations.

We also offer a Learning Academy that is open six days a week, and Career Services that will give you the preparation you need to start your career in the healthcare field. Our schedule options are very flexible, including day, evening and weekend courses, making education available for everyone.

Career Outlook

The job market is a demanding place, and for that reason we prepare our students to enter it as prepared professionals. That is why we have a experienced faculty help students reach their goals.

There is an increasing demand for electronic health record/coding technicians in today’s job market. Their employment is projected to grow by 15% from 2014 to 2024. This exceeds the overall projected employment growth rate of 7% according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. So this is a great moment for students to launch their careers in the healthcare field.*

As an electronic health record/coding technician, you will work as a liaison between patients, doctors and nurses. You will be trained and prepared to work in the following facilities:

  • Doctor’s office
  • Hospitals
  • Ambulatory settings
  • Pharmacy
  • Medical clinics
  • Healthcare companies
  • Insurance companies

You will work with healthcare services, organizing and managing health information and regularly communicating with physicians and other healthcare professionals. You will be responsible for a number of important tasks, such as dealing with patients’ medical history, symptoms, examination results, diagnostic tests, treatment methods and various other services. Your duties may include, but are not restricted to:

  • Managing the records of patients
  • Scheduling appointments
  • Handling billing needs
  • Handling claims and patient payments
  • Reviewing and providing information on insurance benefits
  • Recording doctors’ notes



Our Electronic Health Record/Coding program works with simulated electronic health records to help students learn the ins and outs of the system. You will learn how to do a multitude of tasks required for the job, such as assembling patients’ healthcare information, organizing and managing information and communicating with physicians and nurses. You will learn medical terminology and critical thinking skills required in dealing with the system.

Summit College’s curriculum was especially designed to integrate theory and hands-on practice in modules that build on one another, to equip students with knowledge of all the newest technology and practice.

The goal of our program is to prepare students with a strong and firm foundation, so they will be able to thrive in their chosen field and career. This program provides students with skills for an entry-level position in the electronic health record/coding field.

Upon completion of the Electronic Health Record/Coding program, students will receive a diploma.
